Does anyone have any recommendations for a good white wine to make Sangria with?

I’m making a Watermelon Sangria that calls for a dry white wine. I’m partial to Riesling, but have never made my own Sangria so I’m wondering if anyone has and if there is a certain white that you may have used and had success with.

You can’t go wrong with any of the following:

    MD 20/20
    Cisco
    Thunderbird
    Night Train
    Wild Irish Rose

Hm. I’ve made watermelon mojito but never watermelon sangria. I would be too afraid the watermelon would just fall apart, especially if it is ripe. Perhaps that’s the point?

I like to use a white Rioja (Sangria is a Spanish drink, after all) or Pinot Grigio if my local sommelier doesn’t have what I want. I don’t fill up the pitcher – or if your recipe calls for brandy, don’t add it.

Just before serving, top the pitcher off with some prosecco or other sparkling wine. It gives a nice lightness to the drink and I imagine it would go great with watermelon. People expect something fizzy and fun at a summer party.
